JUNTA is a flat-pack lounge chair developed during a residency with the Operazione Mato Grosso in Chacas.
Shaped by the warmth, generosity and daily rhythm of the people I worked alongside, the project became both a technical response and a personal homage to the craft culture of the Ancash region of rural Peru.
The chair responds to the Artesanos Don Bosco company’s difficulty reaching European and North American markets, where shipping volume limits the circulation of locally crafted furniture. Made entirely from mahogany, JUNTA assembles through a simple tongue-and-groove system without glue, screws or additional hardware. Its structure relies on the precision of the artisans’ hands, allowing joinery to become both construction and expression.
Drawing from the color, durability and decorative spirit of Andean craftsmanship, the project translates local making traditions into a transportable, contemporary form.
